Can a Bicon abutment be modified?

Last Updated: Nov 20, 2013 07:33AM EST
Great care should be given when modifying a Bicon abutment. While the portion of the abutment that meets the prosthesis can be adjusted for the varying clinical situations, the post and hemispherical base should never be modified. Any modification to the post will more than likely result in the locking taper being rendered ineffectual thus no retention or cold-weld. Any adjusted hemispherical base could potentially hinder bone growth and proper seating.
